Title: The Economics of Dating, Chad vs. Courtney

Goals/Objectives:
This semester the easiest information for me to convey was the information that was more personal.  For my final project I have decided to look at the relationship between my boyfriend and I. I want visually represent the economics of our dating lifestyle. I have looked at data about how much we spend on our dating attire, the amount of time it takes us to prepare for a date, the places we typically go on dates, how much fun we have on each date and the average amount of money we each spent on a typical date night out. I want to use different types of line graphs and visuals like silhouettes of a couple to create a poster visual.

Source Data:
The data will come from Chad and I. The date receipts, the costs of clothing we typically wear on a date together, the places the receipts are from and our average feelings on which dates are more or less enjoyable together.

Media:
I want to create a poster visual to represent different financials of dating.  A poster is within my skill range with the software and I feel an effective way to convey the costs of dating someone that anyone can see and relate to.

Audience:
This poster will appeal to anyone who has dated someone consistently and both males and females that are curious about a dating lifestyle economically.

Resources:
Chad Bathgate (boyfriend)
Courtney Zernhelt  (girlfriend)

Assignment 2 Reading Response

I chose a color scheme of pinks. The first reason to bring about attention to the data, the second reason for only three colors was to bring visual harmony as talked about in the article. Having the muted color mixed in with the brighter pinks in my poster are said by the article to help bring attention to the data within the color, this was also intentional for the same reasons the article states. Color is also used according to the data in my background. The color scheme stays continual but the colors bring a focus to the graph of time which leads into the second article. Due to the overwhelming colors, I was able to present the space within my project as more full as this second article discusses one way to fill space is to spread the data. I also achieved this particularly where my clock is located which represents time, another key element to the piece. The strongest way to represent time in a contemporary manner, as the article states; is to display time in a mapping sense. For my set of data, the time displayed was when I consumed my drinks, not a time of distance. For this reason I chose to make a clock graph to show when I consumed each drink over the time span rather than to bring in a distance map that is irrelevant to my data.

Assignment 2 Sketch

The idea is the graph the drinks I intake, calories, and cost. Visually I'm unsure how to make it more interesting and I am open to suggestions...
